The Right To Dignity Of A Human Person

Everyone should be treated with dignity. Dignity here is the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake and to be treated ethically.

The right to dignity of human person simply implies that no person shall be subject to torture or any inhumane or degrading treatment, no person shall be held in slavery or servitude and no one shall be required to perform forced or compulsory labour.

However, it’s expedient to know that forced labour in this instance doesn’t include any labour that results from the sentence of a court, any labour required of members of the military and paramilitary forces, and any other labour imposed on citizens as an obligation to the nation.

See Section 34(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
